Which of the several wiring methods for a hidden dash cam for car is the most hassle free

In order to cope with unexpected accidents that may occur on the road, many drivers have coincidentally installed dash cam cloud recording. However, during installation, drivers all discovered a problem: the wires of the dvr dash cam were too long, and once they were not properly placed, the wires kept shaking during the driving process, which could easily lead to safety accidents. How can wiring be more suitable? Let me first talk about several wiring methods for the dvr dash cam:

1. Cigarette lighter wiring

The simplest method is to directly insert the cigarette lighter, power on it, and then route the wires from the glove box, A-pillar, and other parts. This method occupies the cigarette lighter, and at the same time, the wires in the glove box cannot be hidden, so there may be a section of the wires that is exposed to the outside. However, there are also advantages. You can manually unplug the cigarette lighter plug or press the switch to manually turn on or off the recorder.

Installation steps:

1) Fix the dash cam with a suction cup near the rearview mirror, taking care not to obstruct the line of sight.

2) Determine the wiring direction and installation position. In theory, both the driver's and passenger's positions can be used, but it still depends on the actual situation inside the car, which side is more convenient.

3) The vast majority of vehicles use elastic materials for their roofs. Gently pry them open with your hand and insert the wiring harness into the gaps in the roof. If you are inexperienced in DIY for the first time, you can also use auxiliary tools such as prying boards.

4) Removing the A-pillar trim panel is the most careful part of the wiring process. Before disassembly, it is necessary to study the fixing method here. Most vehicles can be opened directly along the gap of the A-pillar trim panel, and some models may have differences. If the vehicle is equipped with side air curtains, attention should be paid to passing around the position where the air curtain pops open and passing through the rear of the airbag to avoid affecting the normal ejection of the air curtain. After the wiring is completed, knock the panel back.

5) If the wiring is from the driver's side, after passing through the A-pillar, it can enter the hollow hidden area on the upper part of the footrest from below the door panel, which is more convenient than if the passenger needs to pass through the glove box or run the wiring from the bottom of the footrest. It is important to secure the wiring harness in order to avoid potential safety hazards.

6) The final wiring harness will be drilled out near the center console and connected to the cigarette lighter through an open wire.

2. Direct battery connection

This requires threading a wire from the driver's cab into the engine compartment and directly connecting it to the positive and negative poles of the battery. This method cannot manually turn off the power supply, or it is very inconvenient to manually turn off the power supply. Additionally, there may be issues with over discharging the battery. This method requires the use of A-pillars to conceal bare wires.

3. ACC power supply

Generally, there is a secondary fuse box under the steering wheel in the driver's seat. Find the ACC fuse and use the "fuse power plug" to directly insert it into the ACC fuse. You need to check the user manual to determine the number of the ACC fuse. After this method is powered on, it does not affect the power supply of the original vehicle. When the entire vehicle is powered on, the hidden dash cam for car begins to power on. This method also requires the use of A-pillars to conceal bare leakage lines.

Installation steps:

1) After fixing the hidden dash cam for car, thread the voltage drop wire through the A-pillar (refer to the steps for connecting the cigarette lighter) until it is near the fuse box.

2) Turn off the car first, open the cover of the fuse box on the left side, and you can see several free small and medium ports inside. Choose the port to connect to, preferably using a multimeter. First, switch to DC mode, with the positive lead connected to the port and the negative lead connected to the grounding screw (whichever is applicable). Note that if ACC is required, there should be no voltage when the engine is turned off, and there should be voltage when starting ACC. If it is normally powered, When the engine is turned off, voltage is displayed.

3) Due to the fact that the fuse plug only has a positive pole, it is only necessary to connect the positive pole of the step-down wire. As for the negative electrode, it needs to be grounded in a suitable location. Remove the original fuse and plug it into the fuse plug together with the purchased fuse, then insert the fuse plug into its original position.

4) After installation, start the drive hd dash cam. If it can be used normally, the installation is successful.

4. Reading lamp power supply

If it is confirmed that the reading light can be powered on separately (when the engine is locked and turned off, pressing the reading light alone can light it up), it can be powered on through the reading light, and also used in conjunction with the system's step-down wire (power supply). This method has the shortest wiring distance and the best concealment effect. The voltage drop wire (power supply) detects the system voltage, and when it exceeds 14V (engine start), the power supply is automatically turned on.

Installation steps:

1) Pry open the top panel and carefully unscrew the left and right screws on the top of the reading light using a screwdriver. Be careful during this process to avoid the screws falling into the gaps.

2) Remove the reading light wire plug and distinguish between the live wire and the zero wire. Generally speaking, the red wire is the live wire.

3) Connect the live wire and zero wire on the voltage reducing wire to the live wire and zero wire on the reading lamp, and stick the exposed part with adhesive tape.

4) Test whether the dvr dash cam is powered on normally. If it is normal, connect the voltage drop wire output plug of the driving recorder to the vicinity of the rearview mirror through the gap in the front of the reading light.

5) Check the wiring harness inside the reading light, fix it and paste it with silent tape, then reinstall the reading light.

6) Connect the output plug to the dashcam and it can be used normally.

It is recommended to use ACC power supply or reading light power supply methods for good concealment.
